As more people are spending more time online, many of the world’s largest digital communities have seen a significant increase in their platform metrics, including ResearchGate. Since April 2020, we’ve had a 24% increase in registrations and a 34% increase in time spent onsite — and based on certain behavioral patterns among researchers online, we predict that this growth in online scientific research activity will persist into the future.

An active market

Furthermore, we recently conducted a survey of international researchers via the ResearchGate network, collecting 3,000 responses in 24 hours, asking respondents to talk about the impact of COVID-19 on their job-seeking behavior. 1 in 2 are actively scanning the job market — a point of consideration for recruiters. It’s likely that top STEM research talent are either newly looking for work or doing so as a precautionary measure.
